This edition is a documentation from the "Gallery Soundwalk", an intervention in public space I am going to perform on the evening of the 23. November during the opening night of Watt Space Gallery and field contemporary art space.

People can walk between the two galleries and listen via portable radio receivers to a unique site-specific soundcollage.

In this edition of "sounds like music" I wanna present you a sound installation I produced earlier this year. You can listen to a 20 minute stereo-recording of the installation and download a 3 minute exerpt.

»ephemeral systems« is a multi-channel sound installation, consisting of the media word, sound and kinetic objects.

The topic of the installation is it to narrate conditions of order and chaos in an acoustic way and is as well a reflection about remembrance. Metaphorical this is represented by the object of the paper clip. As I started to be fascinated by the different meanings of this everyday life article, a special emphasis lies on the role of the paper clip in Norway given that it was used during the Nazi-occupation as a symbol for the resistance movement. The paper clip functions beyond that as an "instrument" that is moved by small engines and produces clicking noises in contact with glass plates. Over a 4-channel speaker-system audio material of documentary and fictitious origin is played, which defines the room atmosphere together with the electromechanical sound objects.

In this workshop we build low power Fm Radio Transmitters.
This is not Art-Festival (Electrofringe) / Sunday, October 1st / 3-6pm / TAFE Newcastle

In times of globalisation and public surveillance micro radio can be an alternative to mass medium and intervene the used communication structures.
In this workshop people can build their own micro radio transmitter and use them for experimental radio. Afterwards a performance in public space is intended. People attending the performance can tune in via a portable radio receiver; they can physically explore the nature of radio waves and develop their own micro radio strategy.

The Electrofringe and the Octapod - independent arts and media organisation Newcastle invited me to do a workshop from the 26-27 of August 2006.

Together with Sumugan Sivanesan and Ben Byrne (Co-directors Eelctrofringe) we introduced participants to concepts of soundscape studies and electroacoustic music, starting with Walter Ruttmanns "weekend" from 1930 over John Cage, Hildegard Westerkanp to contemporary sound artists like the Tape Beatles, Scanner etc.
On the second day we explored Newcastle acoustically by doing field recordings and producing small soundscapes using the open source audio program Audacity.

Here you can listen to a radiophonic soundscape I made earlier called "rainy weekend"

This will be the first topic of "sounds like music".
"SoundTransit" is a website created by a group of artists from the Netherlands where you can "book a flight" between geographical locations of your choice and you receive a unique soundcollage of diverse city-/ landscapes from around the world.

In my show there will be an interview with the soundartist Derek Holzer, co-creator of "SoundTransit", and of course you can listen to various soundtransits as well as lots of cool music.
